West Ham weighing up shock double swoop for Cardiff City and Swansea City captains - reports

The Hammers have already been linked with Joe Rodon but could well be setting their sights on fresh South Wales targets

By Tom Coleman

West Ham United are reportedly lining up a shock double swoop for Cardiff City skipper Sean Morrison and Swansea City captain Matt Grimes.

The Daily Star claims Hammers boss David Moyes is ready to raid the Championship for new recruits after moving on several first team players over the summer.

The Premier League side have already earmarked several potential options, including Swans and Wales star Joe Rodon, although they look like losing him to Premier League London rivals Tottenham.

However, Moyes remains keen to bolster his defence and bringing experience at centre-back is believed to be top priority for the Hammers boss.

Bluebirds ace Morrison is said to be one name being considered.

Morrison has twice played in the top flight - firstly with Reading and then again with Cardiff two years ago - and there is a suggestion the Hammers could be tempted to take him back to the Premier League.

Morrison attracted interest from Premier League clubs following Cardiff's relegation a couple of seasons ago, but Neil Warnock insisted on keeping his prized captain for an intended promotion push from the Championship.

Warnock has since left, of course, but Morrison remains a dressing room kingpin under Neil Harris as Cardiff seek another top six spot this season.

Losing Morrison would be a blow for Cardiff fans. But it would be hard to stand in his way of a move to West Ham and it remains to be seen if Moyes follows through his interest in the coming days before the closure of the domestic transfer window next Friday.

Watford's Craig Dawson and Bournemouth's Steve Cook are also believed to be on the radar at the London Stadium.

Moyes is also keen on strengthening his options at left-back and midfield, and Swansea captain Grimes is believed to be another name on the agenda due to his ability to play in each position.

Grimes has recently been the subject of interest from Watford in this window, although a concrete approach has not yet materialised, and there's little sign of that changing soon.

As things stand West Ham are also yet to make any sort of approach, but things could quickly change before Friday.

The Swans need to raise revenue and it is possible Rodon and Grimes could each leave if suitable offers materialise.

Joshua King update

Joshua King is unlikeley to sign for West Ham in the next week!

The Bournemouth forward who reportedly earns £45,000 per week on the south coast wants a massive pay rise almost doubling his wages and there is certain to be a huge agent’s fee involved as a result.

This, together with Bournemouth’s valuation for the 28-year-old, means the chance of signing him before the October 16 deadline is seriously slim.

Along with that is the issue of him playing second fiddle to Michail Antonio plus there apparently remains interest from Manchester United although manager Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer’s position may be a problem.

King, in fact, started at the Old Trafford academy as a sixteen-year-old before moving to Blackburn Rovers in 2013 for £1m, later joining Bournemouth in 2015 on a free transfer.

He has made 171 appearances for the Cherries scoring 50 goals, nine of them last season in 33 appearances before Bournemouth were relegated.

He has failed to feature this season failing to make the matchday squad except for one cameo role against Norwich City in the Championship when he came on a substitute although that may be to save him from any injury problems given questions over his future.
